AUDI S7s are to be the first car on sale outside of Europe and the US to go into production in Australia, with the first production model set to be unveiled in early 2018.
The German luxury automaker has been working closely with Australian engineers to develop the S7 for the last few years and has been providing the car with software updates since then.
“We have worked very closely with Audi Australia for the development of the next generation of the S and are delighted to announce that the first S7 will be available to Australian consumers in 2018,” Audi Australia director of product development and innovation Tim Jansen said in a statement.
“Audi is one of the most experienced suppliers in Australia and has a history of producing cars at high standards for Australian customers.”
The Audi S has been a pioneer in the development and production of electric cars, and we look forward to bringing this same experience to the Australian market.
“The first S model will be built at Audi Australia’s facility in the northern suburbs of Adelaide and the first of the model’s 10 variants will go on-sale at the end of 2018.
Audi has not revealed the price, but it is expected to be more than double the current $70,000 price tag.
The AudiS 7 is expected be priced at about $70k.
The first model in Australia to go electric has been delayed until 2019, with Audi planning to introduce the model to the public in 2019.
The company says the car’s price tag is in line with its competitors, including the BMW i3, which is now on sale for around $80,000.
Audi also revealed the car will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol V6 and will be able to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds.
The company’s flagship model, the S5, is already available in Australia for $80k.
It’s also due to be available in the US in 2018, but Audi said the car is currently being produced in China, the Middle East and the Pacific Islands.
The Australian carmaker’s Australian sales have been steadily increasing and the company is now expecting to have sales of more than 3 million S7 cars on-road by the end.
Earlier this year, the company said it was considering making the car available in a range of other markets in Australia.
