Beaches models who’ve made waves in the modeling world have come out swinging at the latest trend: Asians making up a disproportionate share of models.
A recent study conducted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) found that Asian models in the U.S. are making up the largest portion of models in a wave of new arrivals to the modeling industry.
The institute found that of the 2,979 models in U..
S.-based photo agencies in 2014, 1,988 were Asian, and 1,963 were American Indian or Alaska Native.
Of the 6,664 modeling agencies in the United States in 2016, 2,062 were Asian models, and 696 were American Indians or Alaska Natives.
The majority of these Asian models are white, with Asian and Pacific Islander (API) models making up an even larger share of the models.
The trend is not a new phenomenon, and many models have been coming out in support of the change.
A recent photo shoot by the Los Angeles-based Instagram models team shows them taking pride in their Asian heritage, saying: “We want to show the world that we are truly human, that we’re not just a race of people, and that we deserve respect for our talents, our skills and our culture.
I’m not saying this is a perfect representation of me, I’m just saying that we don’t have to be white, we can be black, we have other ways to express ourselves.
The more we can show other cultures, the better.”
In a statement, Instagram says it’s looking to diversify its modeling team and is “committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that fosters an inclusive, welcoming culture in all of our work and is not impacted by race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, gender identity or expression, age, disability, religion, belief system, or belief or political beliefs.”
It is an ongoing effort and we have not yet decided how we will handle models that do not adhere to our values and our policies,” Instagram said.”
We will continue to be transparent about who we select, our processes for selecting them and their process for submitting their application.
We will also work with any model who feels uncomfortable about this process to learn about the processes we use to make this decision.
Instagram will continue our efforts to include models of all backgrounds and sexual orientations in the Instagram family.
“The statement said the company is “looking forward to continuing to have an inclusive environment that is inclusive, safe, inclusive for all.
