BMW’s electric version of the Mirai SUV is expected to go on sale in 2021.
The Mirai is the first plug-in electric vehicle to go into production.
Toyota announced its new SUV, the Mira, last month.
Both the BMW and the Toyota vehicles are expected to be priced below $30,000.
The Ford Fusion EV and Nissan Leaf, also plug-ins, are expected by the end of 2021.

Toyota and BMW have been working on their own hybrid electric vehicles, and they are expected both to be unveiled this year.
Nissan and Toyota announced a joint venture in 2021 that will produce hydrogen fuel cells.
The first hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will go on the market by 2025.
